Types of Power Transmission Belts & Conveyor Belts We Offer
Types of Power Transmission Belts
- V-Belts: The most common type of conveyor belt, featuring a wedge-shaped cross-section designed to fit into V-grooved pulleys. They offer a good balance of power transmission capacity, efficiency, and affordability.
- Sub-types: Standard V-belts, narrow V-belts ( thinner profile for compact drives), cogged V-belts (improved flexibility and grip for smaller pulleys), and wedge belts (higher load capacity).
- Flat Belts: Simple, flat bands suitable for applications requiring low to moderate power transmission and high speeds. Often used in conveying applications.
- Round Belts: Offer excellent flexibility and are ideal for applications with complex drive paths or frequent changes in direction.

- Cotton Cleaner Belts: specific for the cotton industry, cotton cleaner belts are a type of synchronous belt made with a special cord to give longer belt life in the harsh environment of the cotton industry.
- Poly V-Belts: Have multiple V-ribs running along the length, offering higher power transmission capacity in a more compact design compared to standard V-belts.
Understanding VBelt Sizes
Belt sizes are typically denoted by a combination of letters and numbers, representing various dimensions. Here's a breakdown of the common format for V-belts (consult your manufacturer's specifications for specific details):
- Width (First Letter): Represented by a letter (A, B, C, D, or E) corresponding to the belt's width in inches. For example, an A-belt is narrower than a C-belt.
- Top Width (Number): Following the letter, a number may indicate the belt's top width in eighths of an inch. This is more common for fractional horsepower (FHP) V-belts used in lighter-duty applications.
- Length (Number): This number represents the belt's nominal length (circumference) in inches.
Band Numbers and Series
- Band Numbers: This must correspond with the number of grooves on your sheave.
- Series: Some manufacturers may categorize belts into series based on specific characteristics like construction materials, temperature resistance, or intended applications. For instance, a high-performance V-belt series might be designated as "HD" for heavy-duty applications.
